Alaska - Day One

Well I want to let everyone know that I have arrived safely in Hoonah, and that day one was pretty incredible. The flights all went relatively smooth, my luggage made it, and although its pretty chilly right now, I'm so very happy to be here!

Tony met me in Juneau and we had lunch before hopping a flight over to Hoonah... Despite being up 30 hours I wanted to see a bit of the island today, turns out that was a good decision, we saw 5 bears today! The first siting was a mother and her young cub at about 40 yards off, then a juvenile fishing a good ways away, and then two bears suprised is in the roadway.... One ran, but the other meandered around for a bit at approximately 10 yards from the patrol vehicle!!! I wish that I could share those photos with you right away but I simply don't have the software I need up here.... Those will be up after I get home, I promise!

This is a gorgeous land, nobody should go their whole life and not see Alaska.....

I am trying to upload images from my BlackBerry but its not playing nice, I promise pics tomorrow!

Tiffany, glad you had a safe trip up there. Sounds like an amazing trip already. Good luck and remember if you are attacked by a bear, you don't have to be faster than the bear..just faster than the other person with you! =o)
